Hey there, Rockstar!
Artificial food dyes have taken over foods in the United States!
Dyes can be found in many processed foods from candy and drinks to even salad dressings and pickles.
Food dyes are chemical substances that are derived from petroleum. 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐔𝐌! The same base that is used in gasoline, lubricants and detergents is being used in our food.
The thing that irritates me the most about food dyes is that they are purely cosmetic. Research has shown that dyes can cause hyperactivity, allergies, hormone disruption, asthma, damage to chromosomes, and cancer to name just a few. And they put them into our food, so it can be easily marketed. It hurts my heart to think about.
Many countries have regulated or banned food dyes. In the EU manufacturers label foods containing dyes with the warning:
“𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧.”
These same companies make the same foods in the US and nevermind a warning, if there is not a certain amount of dye used, they don’t even bother to mention it in the ingredients list.
In the last 50 years, food dye consumption has increased by over 500%. Consumers seem to think if it is on the shelf at the grocery store, it must be safe. The government would not allow something on the shelf that is not safe. I hear this ALL of the time and each time, I struggle between laughter and anger.
Food dyes in your food make it harder for your body to break down the proteins it needs to thrive, they destroy gut health and weaken your immune system.
